Designed by the renowned John Pugh, "Mereki" presents a tough cruising package that is easy to sail! Originally built in Queensland in 1984 by Lloyds Ships Brisbane using Australian Corten 50 steel, she was then relocated to Tasmania in 2000. Offering very economical cruising in conjunction with a large capacity fuel tank, Mereki makes for a capable cruising vessel with the ability to travel longer. Generous accommodation for up to 5 makes this vessel ideal for family use, with plenty of space in the saloon and a clever heads compartment.
The spacious saloon benefits hugely from NEW (2019) UPHOLSTERY and plenty of open floor space, with the galley situated to port. The galley is well equipped with a metho 3-burner stove and grill, S/S sink and ample bench space and storage. Opposite is a large settee that provides enough seating for 4 around a timber dinette. Just aft of the galley is a nav station, sporting a large chart table and Uniden VHF. The aft quarter berth accommodation is accessed behind the nav station, where a large single berth lies, while to starboard is a deep storage compartment.
Forward is the master cabin complete with a generous double V-berth, with excellent storage beneath and twin hanging lockers to each side. The bathroom is aft of the master cabin, servicing as a partial ensuite to the forward berths. Well-equipped with a manual marine head, basin, mirror and ample storage, it particularly benefits from plenty of floor space, making extended stays onboard very comfortable.
The engine compartment has good access from the front with plenty of space around the motor itself. The Nanni 27hp diesel engine was fitted new in 1998 and provides extremely economical cruising between 6 and 7 knots. With a fuel capacity of 200L, Mereki poses as a great extended cruising vessel.
The cockpit is smart, finished with teak decks while being safe with good protection thanks to the NEW (2020) BIMINI, high sides and general configuration. All controls are led back to the cockpit cabin top and the main sheet traveller passes at the front of the cockpit for easier short-handed sailing. A nicely varnished bench seat spreads across the stern of the cockpit, while a wind generator and solar panel sit slightly aloft. The decks are finished with non-skid and are wide with plenty of handholds leading fore and aft, perfect for younger sailors. The foredeck is uncluttered and features the furling headsail and manual Muir windlass. A boom cover gives protection to the mainsail and lazy jacks mean hoisting and lowering is simple, easily achieved short-handed.
With some recent upgrades and its strong, robust construction, Mereki provides accessible cruising with the abilities to travel far afield. A great accommodation layout and uncluttered, safe decks and cockpit make this vessel well suited to family use.
