Island Packet yachts have an enviable reputation for being roomy, comfortable, rugged and seriously capable bluewater cruising yachts.
The Island Packet 40 is a solid and sturdy sailboat that combines traditional lines with modern features. It has a long waterline, a moderate beam, a full keel with a cutaway forefoot. The IP40 is a moderate displacement cruiser, which means she'll carry all your cruising gear without it having a dramatic effect on her performance.
The IP40 has a cutter-rigged sloop configuration that offers versatility and performance in various wind and sea conditions. It has a self-tacking staysail that can be used in heavy weather or as an alternative to the genoa. This is a versatile rig that offers a multitude of configurations and is easily handled by a cruising couple.
On deck trademark IP features include integral bow platform with twin anchor rollers, recessed foredeck, and full length cabin top handrails and cockpit stern rail seats.
The cockpit features full length bench seats that you can lay down and stretch out on. The extra-deep combings enhance both comfort and safety, especially when offshore. The dedicated helmsman's seat is elevated, has a padded backrest and provides great all-around vision.
The interior offers a spacious, open feel. The saloon features a dining table that folds away and stores neatly on the bulkhead, freeing up space for entertaining and socializing. The table can also be lowered, with an infill cushion creating an extra double berth or daybed. The port-side settee can serve as an additional single berth. Exceptional headroom further enhances the sense of space in the saloon.
The expansive U-shaped galley will impress any chef, offering plenty of counter space for meal preparation. It's equipped with large double stainless steel sinks, a gas stove and oven, a microwave, and abundant storage, providing everything needed to create a culinary masterpiece.
The master owner's cabin is located forward and boasts a double Pullman berth with drawers and lockers beneath. Storage is abundant, with two hanging lockers on the port side and several additional storage options throughout. Four opening hatches surround the cabin, along with a large deck hatch above the private ensuite and shower. The guest cabin, located aft, offers a double berth (currently fitted with a single mattress) with drawers below, a hanging locker, two cabinets, two opening ports, and an overhead hatch. It also has direct access to the second head with a shower.
The Island Packet 40 has a robust and elegant hull and deck that are built to the highest standards of quality and durability. The hull is made of fiberglass with a knitted triaxial roving that provides superior impact and puncture resistance compared to conventional woven rovings or cored construction.
'Down Under' was bought by her current owner in Florida in 2016 and sailed back to Western Australia. She is an Australian-registered vessel and was fully imported into Australia many years ago.
