Designed by the legendary Joe Adams, the Bluewater 42 served as the successor to the popular Naut 40. One of its key enhancements was the introduction of a walk-through sugar scoop transom, a highly sought-after feature. This design improvement offers a spacious swim platform and simplifies boarding from the dinghy. Additionally, the upgrade boosted the waterline length, which in turn enhanced the boat's theoretical hull speed.
As the name implies, this yacht was built for serious offshore bluewater cruising. The long, modified fin keel is a integral part of the hull, and the absence of keel bolts is a highly sought-after feature in any cruising yacht, ensuring greater strength and reliability. The rudder is skeg-hung, a design that significantly enhances both the strength and directional stability of the yacht while underway.
The hull and deck were built to a very high standard by Bluewater Yachts, NSW. The boat was then transported to North Haven Boat Builders in South Australia, where the interior and fit out was completed.
The teak interior is truly stunning. The centrepiece being a large burl veneer dining table that comfortably seats eight adults for diner. The centre piece is a very large burl veneer dinging table that would easily accommodate eight adults for diner. The upholstery is made from imported leather, adding a touch of elegance. The layout offers a variety of comfortable spaces, perfect for stretching out and relaxing while at anchor. The raised deck saloon not only floods the interior with an abundance of natural light but also provides generous headroom, further enhancing the spacious and airy feel.
The galley is positioned forward of the saloon, creating a unique and interesting layout. In practice, this design proves highly functional, with everything easily accessible from either side. There is ample storage space, including large cabinets on both sides. The fridge and freezer are separate units, each offering a generous capacity of 200 litres.
The accommodation is thoughtfully designed, with the enclosed master stateroom located on the aft starboard side. It features a comfortable double bed, ample storage, and a leather settee. There is an additional double berth in the port quarter, behind the navigation table, as well as two single berths in the forepeak.
The cockpit is another standout design feature of the Bluewater 42. The benches are long enough to lie down on and are equipped with high coamings, offering excellent back support. There is easy access past the helm to the swim platform. The helm itself is equipped with full instrumentation on the pedestal, and the self-tailing winches are conveniently positioned within easy reach of the helmsman.
'Comfortably Numb' was recently lifted for new antifoul, PropSpeed and anodes in October 2024.
