Description: William Ball 1908 31' Huon Pine Sloop
A piece of Tasmanian boat building history, The "Elf", A beautiful Huon Pine 31' yacht was designed and built by William Ball in 1908 in Huonville.
She represented the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania in 1908 in the North (Tamar Yacht Club) versus South (Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania) Challenge Cup which was inaugurated in 1898.
In the 1908 race the "Elf" was sailing against "Ventura" in the 14NM race on the River Derwent where "Elf" won the race by over 15mins.
Elf has a long sailing history, winning a number of races in the early 1900's 1920's and 1930's She took part in the Dewar Shield for "A" class boats with her wins recorded on the Dewar Shield displayed in the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. She was also in the 1990's in the Vintage Yacht Races on the Derwent.
The current owners have had the "Elf" since 1993 and have enjoyed many years or day sailing on her as well as proudly displaying her in the Australian Wooden Boat Festivals held in the Port of Hobart since the mid 1990's.
"Elf" is a lovely yacht that has been maintained very well over the years as well as being part of Tasmania's famous and very proud history in maritime. She is offered for sale on a walk-in walk-out basis.
Elf was last slipped in Febraury 2024 (at the Royal Yacht Club slip).
