L'Appel, is an all wood, vintage-style, gaff-rigged trailer sailer in excellent condition. An individual and classic boat, she draws admiring comments now, as much as her designers did in the 1970s, imitating a design from the the 1930s. She was launched in 1988 and has been maintained by the very best of wooden boat restorers: Tim Phillips at the Wooden Boat Shop, Sorrento, then Tim Heaney at Frecheville Heaney Boats, Paynesville.
We have enjoyed sailing her for 20 years on Port Phillip then on the Gippsland Lakes. She is currently stored, for a modest fee, under cover at Metung in Gippsland on her registered trailer. Her length of deck is 6.25 m and with bowsprit is about 7 m.
Gaff-rigged like a couta boat, but with a 2 berth cabin, a substantial winched centreboard, and a comfortable cockpit, she is a pleasure to sail.
I include an article from a wooden boat magazine from Maine, USA, which describes her inspiration.
The registered trailer is included.
She is kept under cover in boat storage, for a modest fee, at Metung where the facility will trail the yacht to and from the boat ramp.
The name, L'Appel, (the French pronounced like the collar of a jacket), in French meaning "The Call" as in the call of the sea (L'Appel de la Mer) with a resonance of de Gaulle's appeal of 18 June 1940 to the free French and the resistance to fight on again the Nazis. But you can decide your own name, without bad luck.
