Traditionally Styled Custom Timber Yawl - As new

It's not oftan an opportunity comes along to aquire or assume the Guardianship of an elegant yacht classically styled yet hybrid consrtruction for reduced maintenance. The feel of a sea kindly classic yacht with the manouverabiliy of a modern design.

Kailani is a composite timber yawl with final comissioning undertaken in 2024, and now nearing completion.

Designed by NZ Naval Architect Armitage Design Group, to a brief which reflected traditional above water with long overhangs, below water modern with fin keel and semi balanced rudder.

From concept to plans and construction detail, design accumulated some 462 design hours, then many years of construction saw an eventual launch in 2021, and final comissioning and sea trials though 2023 - 2024.

Professionally built in Brisbane.

Construction is triple cold moulded timber with Douglas Fir longitudinal planking and two diagonal oregan overlays, providing a very robust hull thickness of 32mm then covered in dynal sheathing as a chafing and moisture barrier. Decks are longitudinally planked Douglas Fir with a ply overlay and dynal; again hybrid traditional. All medium density and dress timbers are New Guinnea rosewood individually purpose selected in their country of origin.

The Rig was fabricated in Brisbane by DLYR.

This stunning vessel is suited to any application from showcasing in the Tassie wooden Boat show, daysailing in Sydney Harbour, or a world circumnavigation given the robust construction. Her draft is only moderate at 2M for a vessel of her size.

Currently Queensland and Australian registered.

She is fitted with covers over all brightwork except capping rails, minimising long term maintenance requirements to preserve the traditional varnish appearance.

The masthead cutter yawl rig provides infinite and manageable sail configurations making her very managable when sailing on or off the anchor - she can easily be steered / balanced by the mizzen with the helm secured centreline. Tacking upwind in tight waterways has proved easy and manageable with staysail, main and part headsail; and backing down on the anchor a breeze with the small mizzen. For short hops on hot days she sails well under headsail, staysail and mizzen with the large awning in place to provide extensive shade from cockpit to the boom vang.

The 50HP naturally asprirated kubota provides trouble free backup with plenty of power when needed whether punching into a chop or manuovering within the marina.

Currently laying Northern Gold Coast conveniently located to head north to the reef or south to Pittwater or the harbour.
