Description: Swanson 38. Quality heavy displacement cruising cutter.
Well regarded Swanson Brothers 38 cutter constructed at the factory in Wyong in 1980/81 and finished to an amazing standard in Tasmania in the following years. Superb Mahogany fitout with Huon Pine trim done by shipwright Dave Wardrop and fitted with the best of everything available in its time.
Only 2 owners since new and now being offered for sale by the family of the second owner of more than 30 years.
Strongly built of fibreglass with easy walk around side decks, sturdy rigging and sails (believed to be 20 to 25 years old) with fore and aft double cabins, spacious heads, storage everywhere, good headroom and a Lister 3 cylinder 35hp diesel providing main power which starts easily and runs well.
Electronics include radar, autopilot, HF and VHF radios, satellite navigation and there are wind instruments, a log and a sounder. All top of the range when launched as is the stainless steel work, the electrical systems, the in boom furling main, the furling genoa, cocktail bar, glass storage and eutectic refrigeration.
"Destiny of Hobart" is fairly priced considering the high construction standards and level of equipment. There are items that a new owner will wish to do but it can be sailed away happily in its current condition and for those wishing a custom built coastal cruiser to be proud of, this would be the one to own.
