The Radford Sprint 35 is renowned for its exceptional performance, and remains a highly competitive race yacht. With its long waterline, narrow beam, and ultra light displacement, these impressive vessels have excelled at everything from twilight racing to serious racing around the buoys. 'RAD' is a superb and unique example of the design, having been extensively modified throughout its life. The current owner purchased the vessel in 2013 and undertook a full 2 year refit of the vessel including LIFTING KEEL SET UP REMOVED AND THE KEEL MODIFIED TO BE A FIXED KEEL, NEW FOAM/EPOXY COCKPIT/CABIN TOP, NEW CARBON CHAIN PLATES, NEW CARBON TILLER, FULL SET OF NEW STEVE WALKER SAILS, FULL SAND BACK AND RE-EPOXY OF THE UNDERWATER SURFACES, FULL HULL RE-SPRAY, AND INTERIOR REPAINT. The vessel was then sold in 2016 to a highly experienced offshore racer, who further improved the vessel and brought it up to Cat 3 to compete in the Launceston to Hobart Race. Further improvements from 2016-2020 included NEW 2020 MAST/BOOM/RIGGING, NEW 2020 FULL SET OF DOYLES STRATIS OFFSHORE SAILS, NEW 2020 RUDDER AND BEARINGS, NEW 2016 CARBON BOW SPRIT, NEW 2016 FULL SET OF GARMIN ELECTRONICS INCLUDING CHART PLOTTER, AIS, WIND/SPEED/DEPTH INSTRUMENTS/ MAST JUMOBS, AND 2020 PROFESSIONAL RE-SPRAY OF THE HULL. He went on to race the vessel with much success including competing in 5 Launceston to Hobart and was a prominent member of the Hobart racing scene. Having achieved everything they set out to do with the yacht, RAD then returned to the hands of the previous owner who has since added a NEW 2022 INSHORE MAIN, AND NEW PRIMARY WINCHES, and enjoyed local twilight racing. With its incredible history of upgrades, and offshore capability, RAD presents a rare opportunity to enjoy a fast, fun, and capable race yacht with all the hard work already done!
Outside, the spacious cockpit is superbly set up for both the serious race crew, or relaxed short handed twilight racing. All lines are lead aft to the cockpit, and the upgraded winches make for easy handling. The vessel is powered by the Yamaha 15HP outboard in a well which is easily raised and lowered. This features a high-thrust prop and provides up to 8 knots boat speed!
Inside, the vessel is neat, tidy, and everything is fully accessible. There is accommodation for up to 4 for overnight regattas, or offshore racing, and plenty of room to stow sails.
With a top speed of 28 knots recorded in a Launceston to Hobart Race, this unique vessel is sure to impress! Suited to anyone looking for a seriously fun twilight/day racer, through to those that want to experience the thrill of offshore racing, this is a vessel that can do it all in style!
