Pan Oceanic 46 Blue Water Cruiser

For sale by owners at a reduced price. Circumstances have changed and we need to sell our girl "Medusa". Inspections, surveys all welcome, however, we will also consider offers on an "as is - where is" basis.

Medusa is currently berthed at Coral Sea Marina. She is a beautiful, well maintained true blue water cruiser. Designed by Ted Brewer and built in Taiwan by Ta Tong Yacht Building Company Ltd for Pan Oceanic Marine Inc. Medusa is a 46 foot Pan Oceanic pilot house Cutter Rig and has sailed extensively both within and outside of Australian waters.

Historically the Pan Oceanic Series are comfortable pilot house cruising yachts but unlike many pilot house yachts that sail poorly, the Pan Oceanic 46's are truly sail boats. The hull design is heavy and the bow and stern sections full, reducing 'burying' in a follow sea. They have the 'Brewer Bite', a cut out in the keel-lines making the boat quicker on the helm yet provides vital support and protection to the propellor shaft.
The full keel together with a keel stepped mast and skeg hung rudder dictates this boat as a true offshore cruiser.

Owned previously, for over 20 years, by a South Australian sailor, Medusa was known as Riot III. Riot III had an extensive re-fit throughout in 2000 including wiring, upholstery, lining, bench tops. The tasteful refit respected the era and was fashioned without "modernising" the boat. Structurally, the distinctive flush deck and hull have had substantial rework. As separate mouldings, the joint between was opened up, epoxied and rejoined. The bob-stay which was originally through-bolted has been externally attached to a carbon-fibre pad. A 12mm stainless steel shoe wraps the length of the keel to protect the sides and resist coral abrasion. Teak decks were replaced with fibre glass and the cockpit re-planked in teak. Two electric winches and Bow thrusters installed.

In 2022 we purchased Riot III after ceremonies to appease the gods, changed her name officially to Medusa. Since then, we have continued to make further upgrades including replacing with new the cushions to the mermaid seats, main sail, genoa, boom bag, helm and life raft covers. Sheets and lines, engine mounts, dripless seal, cutlass bearing and more. New taps to both heads and galley, replaced the tender with a new 2023 Aurora Reef Rider with covers. Radio's, TV, all crockery, cutlery, bedding.

We are currently involved in some minor repairs replacing a piece of teak in the aft cabin that has old water damage, since rectified and some work to the feathering propellor.

Medusa is ready to go anywhere. She was antifouled October 2024 and is fully insured. She is Queensland and Australian registered, has a fuel capacity of 834 litres and two water tanks holding 1135 litres. There are numerous winches at mast and helm with two large electric Barient winches in cockpit. As new genoa and main, however, stay sail, while functional, needs replacing. All instruments at the helm are repeated in the Pilot House.

Cockpit contain two fibreglass gas bottles, BBQ, hot and cold water shower and extensive storage in deep lazarettes. A fishing tackle compartment with slide out draws and an insulated ice box. Solar panels are mounted over the tender davits. Anchor controls at the helm enabling anchor to be lowered or raised from helm or by foot controls at the bow.

Sun shades extending from boom provide sun protection on anchor and when berthed full covers protect from elements. Clip off screens give sun protection to the pilot house in summer and removed in winter give an exceptional 180-degree view. There is also full covers to protect the boat whilst berthed.

Engine room, easily accessed, with Perkins M90 Deisel motor and Perkins Genset 103-10EP also contains a scuba compressor and water maker. The compressor and water maker do require servicing.

Medusa's spacious interior is beautifully finished in teak with LED lights throughout. The aft cabin has storage draws under the berth and an additional Ray Marine i70 wall mounted for convenient checking of wind or depth. Off the aft cabin is a private head and bosuns locker.

The pilot house has a large chart table, all instruments repeated from cockpit, control panels, HF and VHF radios, Aquatic AM/FM Bluetooth radio with speakers in pilot house, Saloon and cockpit. An additional fold down table and two seats plus a crew berth.

Centre of boat the Galley has twin sinks, Broadwater Schooner Stove, Microwave and huge under bench fridge and freezer. To the right of the Galley is a midship head with separate shower room.

Moving forward the large comfortable saloon with almost new smart tv. Table can extend outwards for a larger dining group or be lowered to make an additional queen bed. Lots of cupboard space, storage under seats and a top bunk.

The V-berth cabin is also generous with robe and draws and plenty of storage under berth.

All beds have custom made fitted sheets.

We will be selling Medusa with all crockery, cutlery, kettles, toasters, linen etc. There are extensive manuals on boat operations and reference guides all indexed for quick reference.
