NA UTILUS YACHT MANAGEMENT is proud to present this rarely available to market and immaculate example of the popular Nautitech 40 Open.

This beautifully proportioned catamaran with her assertive and powerful profile hides a veritable working horse beneath her refined details. Sailed by a Swiss family from Europe to Australia, she was then purchased by her current owners, a group of 4 NZ friends who after an in-depth refit enjoyed her in NZ during the summer months, and in the South Pacific islands in the winter.

Ali Cat has always been meticulously maintained and was just given a final meticulous look-over in order to make her absolutely perfect for you. This Nautitech 40 Open will appeal to a discerning buyer. Her presentation is second to none.

Chosen for her responsive, lively displacement and great turn of speed as much as for her generous and luxurious accommodation, she has delivered to her owners everything and more, taking them safely across thousands of ocean miles without so much as a complaint.

Starting outside, the cockpit will surprise you with its large proportions for a 40' cat. It is a great space to relax and entertain. Where certain catamaran manufacturers have chosen to reduce the cockpit space in favour of a larger salon, Nautitech has designed a catamaran perfectly suited to the love of the outdoors, with a perfectly balanced salon and galley area, but at the same time a larger usable cockpit space than can be found in similar size catamarans.

The cockpit, which is where most boat owners spend most of their time whether at anchor or at sea, is the real gravity centre of the yacht, with a large, comfortable outdoor dining furnished with custom designer upholstery and lovely table. There are settees on all sides of the cockpit, perfect for entertaining and to provide additional storage areas, something greatly appreciated by long range cruisers always in need of space.

Designed to integrate the outdoor and indoor area seamlessly, the salon is a simple extension of the cockpit, but can also be closed off into a very lovely, cosy area which is positioned in a way to make the most of the 360 degrees views, while providing comfortable seating when underway.

The salon table can be lowered to create additional guest sleeping or a very comfy day bed, perfect for those lazy rainy days or resting during a passage.

The galley was deliberately positioned to help the cook remain at the most stable angle when wrestling up dinner in a difficult seaway. It is well-equipped for serious cruisers and provides generous storage for both perishables and pantry items.

The layout offers 4 cabins and two heads, whereas the cabins and heads are larger than what would be found on a 4 cabins / 4 heads model.

As with the rest of the boat, attention was placed on using space to provide an abundance of storage areas, sorely needed on cruising yachts. Various lockers are found everywhere, from hanging lockers to shelvings, drawers, and smaller, versatile lockers making use of the available space in the smartest way possible.

The Davits allows for the dinghy to be safely stowed when at sea and launched when needed, as well as easily boarded from the large transoms specifically open on one side for this purpose.

Looking now at the more dynamic side of the yacht, Ali Cat was fitted out for world travel.

For those who want a proper look at their sails, feel closer to the water and get a real 'sailing feeling', the helms are perfectly situated. The helm positions are also ideal when berthing in a tight spot, with perfect visibility to the side. To make things even easier, the owners have installed a mast head camera which displays the vessel from above on the chat plotter screen.

Ali Cat was always meant to be sailed short-handed. Both her pervious and current owners made sure that everything to do with handling the ship in all weather conditions could be done safely. In spite of her impressive size, Ali Cat is very easy to sail with her self-tacking jib, most lines run aft to the cockpit, and an intelligent running rigging system fed through individual rope jammers. Her sails wardrobe was recently upgraded for light winds sailing with a North Sails Code Zero and an asymmetric spinnaker, both purchased in 2021.

Ali Cat is built to CE standards and as she is registered by NZ Maritime, must pass the stringent CAT 1 certification for ocean going vessels. As such, Ali Cat was equipped with storm sails, a whole array of safety equipment specifically for CAT 1, plus a full electrical warranty of fitness, gas solenoid and alarm, extensive first aid kit, ect. To be able to keep the CAT 1 certification a vessel must be inspected thoroughly every year for safety inclusions for offshore passages.

Ali Cat is the product of long years of research and comparisons for her owners, both the Swiss family who chose her to sail half way around the world, and by her current owners, 4 friends who had already done extensive cruising on their previous vessels and who looked for luxury and comfort for this new endeavour, as well as an exhilarating and safe experience when sailing the tricky Southern Ocean to warmer latitudes each year. They decided on the Nautitech 40 Open because they loved the Nautitech design and second-to-none building quality, with the added bonus of a generous headroom for taller people, which often lacks on other catamarans. With a minimum 6'4" headroom at her lowest point, the Nautitech 40 Open was worth waiting for and has proven a great compromise between comfort and performance.

This boat is setup for bluewater cruising, and has been taken off grid for months at a time. She is ideal as a live-aboard or serious blue-water cruiser for you and your family. She will be personally handed over to you by her owners, who will take the time to show you how everything works on board. In the meantime, we have put together a very descriptive video tour, which you can view on our  Nautilus Yacht Management Youtube Channel.

Before being put on the market, Ali Cat was closely inspected to sort out any possible blemish and to make the boat perfect for her new owners. Few boats come to market in such beautiful condition and she is a credit to her owners.

For more information or to organise an inspection please contact our friendly team at Nautilus Yacht Management.  We would be delighted to assist you in every way and to help you make your cruising dream come true. Our agency specialises in cruising yachts and is very involved with the cruising community. We can answer all your questions regarding offshore purchase, import, insurance, registration, etc. And help you at every stage of this exciting journey!

 -A Word From The Owners-

"Ali Cat was originally owned by a Swiss family who sailed her from the Mediterranean to Australia. She was then purchased in 2019 and bought to New Zealand where she has been owned by a syndicate of four NZ owners.

This syndicate has been a partnership of like-minded people, who enjoy adventure and water sports. Together as a team we have maintained the boat to a high standard and invested in upgrades to allow comfortable living aboard for extended periods. The boat has been based in New Zealand and the South Pacific over the past six years, with winters spent in Fiji and Tonga - surfing, diving, kiting, foiling & enjoying paradise, and the boat returning to NZ each summer.

The Nautitech design has the advantage of foam composite construction, as opposed to balsa core, removing the risk of structural rot. The hull, deck and roof are built with a fibreglass and polyester sandwich infusion, which results in lighter and stronger hulls, and osmosis protection. The port and starboard helm positions allow for a large cockpit with sliding doors into the saloon and galley, which gives seamless flow for entertaining and living aboard.

Ali Cat has had significant upgrades in 2021,2024 and 2025.

Due to a change of circumstances for the owners, we are putting Ali Cat up for sale. A pre-purchase survey is available, as well as a recent insurance survey. We hope you enjoy her as much as we have, and offer any support you need as you transition on board and make her your own. "
