Ker 40

Originally Showtime
I bought her basically as a hull and rebuilt her from scratch. The goal was a fast 2 handed boat.
She has 1000l of water ballast per side in 2 tanks to replace the 11 crew that she used to sail with.
The ballast tanks and keel structure also have the bonus of making the boat significantly stiffer than a standard ker 40.
A crew of 5 works very well.
We have won several ocean races with her but we are still learning the boat
We built a lifting keel with 2.5m draft and 3.2m draft. (2.5m was for Moreton bay)She achieves cat 1 righting moment with the keel up and keel down)
We moved the keel back a little as the original boat was very nosey.
The new boat has a lorima carbon rig which is over specked for the boat but is very strong.
We modified the rudder shape and the boat steers very very well now. (the original rudder was not great)
We went back to tiller steer and removed the pedestal to clean the cockpit up and simplify the boat for 2 handed.
The boat has a strengthened extended bow pole which works very well.
Light air the boat is very fast on all points of sail but especially downwind. We have been line honours out of the bay racing much bigger boats in an ocean race.
Off the breeze is the boats best point of sail. We have averaged 15kn over an hour in only 20kn of wind. Our best 10min average is 15.7kn. This is very similar to a TP52 speed.
The boat has the potential to win any ocean race including Hobart overall under IRC if it is given the right conditions.
All sails, motor, electronics(Full B&G system) etc are all new.
