Sea Turtle is a light weight quality cruising catamaran designed and built by John Dengate with a modern, well thought out, high quality fitout. Her powerful rig combined with a new set of sails allows for enjoyable performance even in light winds.
The foam core consists of 20mm polyurethane. The external laminate is constructed with a gelcoat layer, followed by a 400g tie layer, a 600g double bias, a 225g chopped strand mat (CSM), a 600g 0/90° bi-axial, and a final layer of 450g CSM.
On the internal side, the laminate sequence from the core outward includes a 450g CSM, a 600g double bias, and another 450g CSM.
For additional strength and rigidity, a 16mm plywood layer was incorporated beneath the bridge deck. All bulkheads are made from plywood and securely fiberglassed to the hull and deck using multi-axial woven fibreglass cloth. Filling and fairing were completed with epoxy resin and microballoons. The paint system consists of a durable, hard wearing, two pack polyurethane finish by International.
John Dengate built four sailing catamarans and one power catamaran from these moulds, with two of the five boats constructed to survey standards.
Sea Turtle is the highly sought after 3 cabin "owner's version" layout, comfortably accommodating up to 8 guests.
