The Huon Pilothouse Yachts boast an exceptional reputation for their impressive sailing performance, offshore capability, and well-designed interior layouts. Based on a Kaufman design, they are highly sought after, and ideal for year-round cruising in any climate. This Huon 40 is an exceptional example of these fine vessels. Designed and built by renowned Tasmanian Shipwright Rod Goode (of Huon Yachts), as a larger version of the Huon 36, this stunning vessel was commissioned for himself. With its strip plank and epoxy construction, it is built to withstand the challenging Tasmania conditions and has been well set up for extended cruising. With these quality pilothouse designs few and far between, this vessel presents an opportunity not to miss!
Stepping inside, the light and airy interior boasts panoramic visibility, rarely seen in a monohull! The quality timberwork is beautifully paired with clean white finishes and traditional navy upholstery, presenting in impeccable condition with no dents or scratches to the timberwork to note. To port is the generous timber dinette, with seating for 8 in comfort around the deep settees. Forward is the interior helm station that has benefited hugely from ALL NEW RAYMARINE ELECTRONICS, including an autopilot for course changes inside and full engine instrumentation. The high helm seat provides excellent visibility and makes an ideal place to keep watch whilst underway in inclement weather. Just an easy step down is the galley to starboard. This is fully equipped with a double burner gas stove with oven, microwave, double bowl stainless steel sink with H/C pressurised water, and plenty of storage for extended cruising. The accommodation is ideal for cruising with family and friends. Forward is a generous double v-berth, there is a second double private cabin aft with ensuite, and a third cabin with twin bunks, ideal for younger members of the family. The package is complete with a fully appointed main bathroom with shower, electric toilet, and vanity.
Outside, the size of the cockpit needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. Fully equipped with comfortable cockpit cushions, it makes a great space to take in the sights underway, or relax in your favourite anchorage. The vessel is very well set up for easy short-handed sailing, with upgraded Raymarine electronics, autopilot, self-tailing winches, the main sail in a boom bag with lazy jacks, and furling headsail. There is easy access forward around the wide side decks, and the electric anchor winch on the bow makes for easy anchoring.
This vessel is powered by a well-maintained and reliable Nanni 43HP Diesel engine with very low hours. This provides easy cruising at 6-8 knots.
With its excellent presentation, quality build, and impressive performance, this will excel at anything from family cruising, to twilight racing, or even make a very comfortable liveaboard. Whether you want to explore the stunning waters of Southern Tasmania, or head further afield with the comfort that only a pilothouse can provide, this vessel can do it all in style!
