Description: Geoff Cuthbertson 22 Motor Sailer
"MoonStone" aka "Debonaire" was built of Huon Pine around 1945 as a Cray boat working around the Tasman Peninsula.
She was also commissioned for the mail run to Tasman Island. As such she is an extremely well built sea boat with surprising seakeeping capabilities for her size.
In 2004 she was fully rebuild from stem to stern by the respected Master Shipwright, Geoff Cuthbertson of Tasmania and remodelled as a 'Motor Sailor' with a small mainsail and jib, and an enclosed saloon, which also included the hull being prepared and fully sheathed with double bias fibreglass/epoxy.
Under way she can be steered from the cockpit tiller directly attached to the stout, transom hung rudder, or in adverse Tasmanian style weather by the helm station in the cabin.
Sail handling is very simple with a small furling jib, lazyjacks and a large boom bag for the main.
She also has a small boarding/swimming platform which facilitates boarding from a tender.
The internal fitout was completed in Huon Pine, Kauri and Teak to a very high standard which, when coupled with areas of gelcoated white fibreglass create a pleasing airy interior, with full standing head room in the saloon.
She has an automatic, electric head, as well as a comfortable, roomy vee berth forward with a cafe style saloon table with seating for four opposite the two burner gas stove.
Further work was commissioned just before I bought the boat with a rigid cockpit roof added, together with associated full canvas covers and an additional lewmar hatch in the saloon roof.
I have recently fitted a new Yanmar 2YM15 diesel and gearbox which currently has only 40 hours runtime and has had its initial running-in service.
The boat was slipped in early July this year and antifouled with annodes replaced and is ready to roam the Hawkesbury this summer.
She is currently moored on an MSB mooring in Hardys Bay which I will no longer have any use for and the mooring hardware could form a component of the sale.
