Description: Formosa 41
I have owned this ketch for 16 years, kept it well maintained and regularly cruised the entire Oz East Coast and out to Lord Howe. Set up for solo sailing with Couresmaster autopilot, port/strbd Hutton-ARCO electric winches, GPS, AIS etc. This is a magnificent long-keeled ocean-going vessel that has safely carried me and crew through some very heavy weather, including a violent East Coast low a few years ago where other boats nearby were driven ashore on the North Coast. In her early years, she was sailed to Oz from Canada and has sailed Australia top to bottom.
This is the story as things now stand. There was an electrical fire in the engine compartment last Christmas creating much damage in that area. Since then, the burnt/singed woodwork has been replaced. Also all new fuel-lines, water hoses, battery cables, morse control cables, starter motor, alternator and lift pump have been replaced and the Perkins engine is now running sweetly again. However, to complete the job I would reccomend a profession marine electrician be engaged and would expect it would be a 3 or 4 day job plus the cost of the wiring and incidentals. Probably cost around five grand. Consequently, I have priced the boat well beneath its value when that and other small handy-man jobs have been completed. "Diana" was valued at around $80k+ prior to the fire.
Generally speaking, during the past five years or so, the following have all been replaced with new:- all sails, capstan winch motor, electric toilet motor, PSI shaft seal, cutlass bearing, propellor, Manson anchor, 55m anchor chain, spruce bowsprit (@ $6k), and numerous other general upkeep items.
"Diana" went up on the hard on the Woolwich Dock hardstand during 10/11 September for anti-foul and now has a shipwright inspection report of her hull/rudder and pintle post condition.
Bonus: about 300 litres of diesel is in the tank.
