Built by XSP Yachts, this Farr designed performance sports boat has been completely refurbished in 2021 and is the best Platu 25 in Australia. She boasts high performance fittings and Dyneema ropes throughout including running rigging, lifeline, backstay and soft shackles. Mast and boom are aluminium. Mainsheet has been setup with fast trim, self tailing winches, and single line reefing set up for single handed sailing.
Launched in 2008, and currently being raced competitively in the 2023/24 season, this boat has a new set of North 3Di class sails (October 2023 $12'000), as well as a second set of good training Quantum sails. She's currently protected by the elements by a new full boom tent and bow-v tent for full deck cover. She also has a 2012 6hp Mercury 2 stroke outboard. This boat comes with a custom shipping and storage cradle and can be loaded to a truck for delivery (see photo's). Previously owned by a Marine Surveyor, this yacht has been well maintained and is ready to sail and race now. Freshly antifouled (Oct 2023), and berthed in Southport Yacht Club, she is available for inspection by appointment only.
Designed as a cost efficient, fast, sporty and easy to handle club racer, the Farr Platu 25 is a World Sailing recognised one design class, suitable for teaching sailing and racing skills to new sailors, as well as being internationally popular with well organised professional crews of five to hone their skills, promoting fast, close and exhilarating racing. With no interior fitout, it is intended for day racing only. It is also capable of being raced in the IMS Racing Division with few minor additions to the otherwise empty interior to suit IMS Regulations.
An efficient, no-nonsense deck layout has been designed to make the yacht easy to sail for either the novice or regatta veteran. Complete with sail and rig controls, emphasis has been placed on the careful placement of gear.
Configuration of a double swept-spreader, fractional rig with short over-lapping headsail and large mainsail will allow for a high performance rig that is strong and reliable yet allows for effective adjustment of sails for varying wind conditions. The large spinnaker is set on an "over-length" pole which will be stowed on the boom.
The light displacement hull shape combines a long waterline, fine bow sections and powerful stern sections, all carefully balanced to deliver exceptional performance. The combinations of wide, flaring topsides that increase the effective stability from crew weight and a highly refined keel geometry gives high stability essential for a well-rounded, light displacement design.
With a draft of 1.58m (5.18ft), the SG cast iron keel design has evolved from the keels seen on Farrs' most recent Whitbread designs, featuring a large bulb carefully integrated into a slender fin. The highly refined rudder profile and section shapes, unique to FARR designs, call for a carbon rudder stock, glass and foam rudder blade.
