For Sale: FARR 1104 - "Cannonball"
Built by Compass Yachts, NZ
Unleash Your Racing Spirit and Cruise in Comfort!
Meet Cannonball--a legendary FARR 1104 that's been the seller's pride and joy for the last 5 years. With hundreds of hours of love and upgrades poured into her, she's now a modern, safe, and very fast yacht, optimized for club racing dominance and unforgettable family cruising to Rottnest Island or serene twilight sails.
Designed by Bruce Farr and built by Compass Yachts in New Zealand, this boat was ahead of its time--its sister ship Piccolo famously won the 1976 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Cannonball (formerly Golden Eagle) boasts a storied history in Western Australia, excelling in both offshore and inshore racing. From victories in the 1988 Fremantle to Bali and Fremantle to Cocos Islands races to recent IRC triumphs in blue water classics like the Bunbury and Return and Cape Naturalist races (2020-2023), she even clinched the Division 2 PHS Blue Water State Champion title in 2021.
Club Racing Ready
Cannonball is a proven performer in club racing, with top-tier sails tailored for speed and precision:
New Onesails Forte 4T No. 2 Jib (2021)
Dacron J1, Kevlar J3, Dacron J4, and storm jib
Two Dacron mainsails + a tri-sail
A1 masthead, A2 masthead, and A3 fractional spinnakers--all recut and optimized for her rig
Her short-handed racing setup is a dream: a 1.5m carbon-fiber bowsprit, asymmetrical spinnaker wardrobe, and all sheets and halyards run to the cockpit via 6 Harken ST-40.2 radial winches and Spinlock clutches. The state-of-the-art B&G autopilot with machine learning holds true or apparent wind angles with precision, controllable via a wireless remote--perfect for twilight races or double-handed club events.
Family Cruising to Rottnest and Beyond
Beyond the racecourse, Cannonball transforms into a cozy family cruiser. With comfortable beds for 6 (double V-berth, two stern quarter doubles, and two midship singles), a functional galley (sink with fresh/salt water pumps, 2-burner stove, ice box), and a standard pump toilet, she's ideal for weekend getaways to Rottnest Island or leisurely twilight sails with loved ones. Recent upgrades like the Fusion Bluetooth sound system with indoor/outdoor speakers and a 100L water capacity ensure comfort on board.
Proven Offshore Pedigree
Ready for CAT 2 offshore racing (just add a life raft and SAT-phone), Cannonball offers an affordable way to compete against yachts worth hundreds of thousands. Her long carbon-fiber bowsprit, new dyneema backstay, and Harken tuff luff twin-track forestay make her a force in any fleet.
