RENENE.
Custodian Classic Boat Sales is honoured to offer a new custodian an enduring part of Tasmanian boat building, the 32ft, Huon Pine, William Atkins designed, BERMUDAN CUTTER, RENENE.

RENENE was built in 1955 for Paul Parry and Peter Murray with the construction supervised by Hugh Dell of Hobart, to the 1925 'Eric' design by William Atkin.
RENENE was transported by road to be launched at Constitution Dock.
Built tough from 1.5 inch Huon Pine planking as a world cruiser and a competitor in the famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
Entering the race in 1956, it was indeed fortunate that RENENE'S owners chose a William Atkin design for their new boat, RENENE and her crew were lost for 5 days after a severe storm with gale force winds and forty-foot waves devastated the fleet!
A three-day aerial search found no trace of RENENE but miraculously days after the last boat finished the race, RENENE sailed into Constitution Dock virtually unscathed to take the wooden spoon.
RENENE has only changed hands twice in her lifetime, a testament to her enduring qualities!
Jock Muir with a young 14-year-old John Muir aboard delivered RENENE to Williamstown in 1957 to be sold.
Charles ( Bud) Bacon purchased her and took her back to Sandringham Yacht Club where she resides today.
Since that day in 1957, she has been in the care of the Bacon family, a mere 67 years.
Her ownership by the Bacon Family has seen an impressive race record with 10 Melbourne to Devonport races under her belt. Under the Stewardship of Skipper Kent Bacon (1996) RENENE has also been a keen competitor in the Classic Yacht Association Summer/ Winter series for many years and SYC club races.
RENENE has always been maintained to the highest standard!
In 1997 all the original chain plates and mast fittings were renewed in stainless steel.
In 2004 new mast and standing rigging was added.
In 2009 the mast was again replaced after a unfortunate collision while racing in Hobsons Bay.
In 2013, RENENE was taken to Williamstown and placed into the shed of Master Shipwright Ferdie Darley where the deck was removed and replaced with marine plywood then dynel sheathed. (Dynel cloth with apoxy resin) A new teak deck was then overlaid over the dynel, creating water proof and now beautiful new deck!
A new bumkin and rudder cheek plates were added in 2023.
The Perkins 4108 was removed and rebuilt in 2014.
RENENE passed a 2023 insurance survey with flying colours, which is available apon request!
RENENE'S measurements are :
32 ft LOD 48ft LOA with a beam of 11 feet and a draft of 5ft 6 inches.
RENENE is currently moored at Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne and can be viewed by appointment.
