Australian designed and built, the Challenger 36 is renowned for its robust construction and comfortable cruising capabilities. Many of these impressive vessels have cruised extensively including Bluewater passages through the Pacific Ocean. This vessel is an excellent example of the design and has been very well maintained and upgraded. These significant upgrades include DECK REPAINTED 2025, TOPSIDES REPAINTED 2024, STEERING CABLES REPLACED 2024, NEW
AH HOUSE BATTERY BANK, NEW 2020 ELECTRIC ANCHOR WINCH, and a NEW 2024 FRIDGE/FREEZER. The ENGINE WAS ALSO REPLACED IN 2007, PLUS A NEW 2015 SAILDRIVE FITTED. The current owner has cruised the vessel extensively around Tasmania, through the Bass Strait Islands, and up the NSW Coast. Easily managed short handed, and with all the comforts to also be enjoyed as a liveaboard, this is a vessel that ticks all the boxes. Whether you are after a safe and simple first yacht to learn the ropes on, or utilise its true offshore capability to achieve even the most ambitious sailing aspirations, this is a vessel that can do it all with ease!
Stepping inside, the traditional timber trims and clean white finishes create a warm and welcoming ambience. The saloon is a great space to relax in comfort on the neatly upholstered settees. The well appointed galley is to port. This features a 2 burner gas stove with oven, double bowl stainless steel sink with H/C pressurised water, top loading (portable) fridge/freezer, and plenty of storage for extended cruising. The accommodation is ideal for a full time liveaboard, or cruising with friends and family. Forward is a huge queen sized V-berth, with excellent adjacent storage. Aft are two king-single quarter berths, plus there is a single settee berth in the saloon when additional accommodation is required. The private bathroom is to port and is fully equipped with a manual toilet, H/C hand held shower, and vanity. The package is complete with a generous chart table, ideal for the traditional navigator.
Outside, the vessel gleams with its freshly painted topsides and deck. Well set up for comfortable cruising it features a full set of cockpit cushions, clears to enclose the cockpit, plus a brand NEW clear in the spray dodger providing superb visibility. This vessel is easily sailed short handed thanks to the Leisure Furl in-boom furling system for the mainsail, furling headsail, Raymarine autopilot (NEW in 2015), and electric anchor winch (NEW 2020). The mainsail is also in easy reach of the wheel, and with all winches self tailing, sailing is simply a breeze! Aft are the heavy duty stainless steel dinghy davits, with a large solar panel above providing plenty of power.
This vessel is powered by a Yanmar 3YM30 30HP Diesel Engine which was installed new in 2007. With only 15000hrs (approx) on the clock it provides easy and reliable cruising at 5 to 6 knots. This is paired with a NEW 2015 saildrive and 3 bladed prop for excellent performance. Serviced in NOV 2024, and the exhaust hose replaced in 2023, it is ready to be enjoyed.
