Cavalier Yachts needs no introduction and this Cavalier 30 is a shining example of why they are held in such high regard. Originally designed as a D28 in New Zealand by the renowned Laurie Davidson and OK racing champion Dave Blundell, for many years the D28 was built in Australia as the Cavalier 28, initially an exact copy, however later the length was increased to 30' and the rudder moved inboard and it was during this time that Rumba was born. A solid GRP hull, a GRP cockpit and main hatch, as well as beamy interior make this yacht as solid as can be. Davidson was always particular about his foils, he specified exactly the shape for the D28 keel and rudder, which is one reason this 30 footer sails so well to windward. The lead keel is through bolted with 7 x 15mm bolts
The interior layout was unusual at the time in that the galley occupied most of the starboard side with a dinette arrangement to port. This had the advantage of giving the cook plenty of space for cooking at anchor, great for a family while cruising. The heads is in its own compartment on the port side opposite the galley. Sleeping 4 in comfort through the V berth (2) Starboard 1/4 (1)and dinette (1), headroom is 1.8m throughout the whole cabin area. The conservatively sized masthead rig is keel stepped, and as designed had four headsails. The engine is a well maintained Bukh 10 mounted under the cockpit with brand new shaft driven folding Gory propellor. Rumba is often on the podium including winning the sail paradise regatte in 2020
Rumba performs excellently under sail; typically club handicaps place it among boats two to four feet longer. It has no vices, has easy, predicable handling and is stiff. The hull has a lot of buoyancy and the ends are full. The well balanced rudder is light and the boat is highly responsive.
Rumba has been raced on a weekly basis and all standing and running rigging is checked regularly. She is currently safety rated to Category 4 and the Owner has meticulously maintained every aspect of this beautiful yacht. This includes new covers (Pilot berth still in plastic cover), new rigging with all rigging electricals replaced including encasing wiring in conduit, new toe rails, electric head, fully serviced engine and sail drive, with the main and number 1heavy replaced in 2022.
Rumba has just been hauled out, anti fouled, cut and polished and is ready to go today. Do yourself a favour and book an inspection as at this price, Rumba will not be on the market for long.
