Experience true independence and off-grid living in comfort and style on this super-sized Australian registered vessel, designed, built and fitted out for bluewater cruising and passage making with your safety in mind.
Purchased from the original owner in 2021, Ausbos is a 50ft custom-built sailing catamaran in turn-key condition, fully refitted in 2021 for bluewater cruising with an eye to circumnavigation and off grid living. This large boat has been a much-loved liveaboard home for our family of four, and is fully equipped for long-term cruising and could easily circumnavigate if that is on your bucket list.
Ausbos performs exceptionally well under sail, has excellent bridgedeck clearance (no slamming!), and comfortably moves at 8-9kt in 16kts of apparent wind, topping out at around 12kts in absolute comfort fully reefed. Smaller boats shudder and vibrate at these speeds, but Ausbos just slips through the water like a hot knife through butter.
She is sailed 100% singlehandedly with almost everything being done from the cockpit including anchoring. If the wind falls away she will do 6kts with one engine at 2200rpm. Or if you just want to get there, she will comfortably do 7-8kts under both engines or 10kts if you really put the hammer down.
The reliability of two new 2021 Volvo D2-75 engines, with low hours and regular maintenance provides exceptional peace of mind and plenty of power if the conditions call for it. Another notable mention is the upgraded electrical system in 2021. Ausbos runs almost entirely from the power of the sun. WIth 2400W of sunpower solar panels we power our induction stove, thermomix (not included), 240L watermaker, dive compressor, AC unit, instant hot water, 4 laptops, 3 iPhone, 2 iPads and a myriad of other devices all from solar power. If the sun hides for a few days we have a Balmar XT 250A alternator installed on the starboard engine, and for extra backup we have a 2kW Dewalt portable generator, but we haven't used that since installing the Balmar.
Hauling out is now done only when necessary since we sand-blasted the hull back to the fairing and re-painted the hull with 3 coats of high build and 5 coats of Coppercoat. This was one of the best decisions we made on our refit. Haulouts are a fraction of the cost now as we can get those necessary things done in days, rather than weeks not to mention we no longer have to fork out an arm and a leg for the cost of anti-foul.
In the last three years we have sailed Ausbos extensively, covering over 9000nm from Mooloolaba to Darwin, to East Indonesia to Sulawesi, Flores, Kalimantan, West Sumatra, Malaysia and Thailand. We are currently onboard living in beautiful Thailand after spending the season surfing the world class breaks off the west coast of Sumatra. Previously diving the incredible reefs of Raja Ampat, Halmahera and Bitung Sulawesi. This part of the world really is one of the most spectacular cruising grounds on Earth. World class snorkelling, diving, surfing and island hopping at your fingertips at any time of year.
Ausbos is a 4-cabin catamaran (4 queen-sized beds) with a spacious bathroom in each hull - all with shower, toilet, sink and storage, as well as a transom shower. The interior's red cedar custom-built cupboards provide generous storage for a large liveaboard crew, and the oversized cockpit allows you to entertain and dine with friends, hang your hammocks or roll out a yoga mat.
There is 2m (6'6") headroom throughout Ausbos, and the huge salon provides separate spaces to dine and stretch out on a huge U-shaped lounge reupholstered and re-cushioned in 2023. The four of us, including two very large teenagers, can all stretch out while watching a movie on the big 55" smart TV. There is easily accessible under-lounge storage for the house batteries, longterm stores, boardgames and all your sundowner needs.
If you like to cook, an oversized downstairs galley boasts plenty of counter space for appliances, plus gas and portable induction stove cooking, 2 x 80L eutectic fridges, and 2 separate 25L freezers. If that's not enough we have an 80L Engel portable fridge/freeze for that unexpected fish or beer you come across. The galley is fitted with fans and deep sinks, plenty of headroom and more cupboards than you will ever need.
Walking from the cockpit to the bow, you will be pleasantly surprised by the unparalleled deck space, our favourite spot for a bit of morning yoga. The cabin top is another hideaway with plenty of space to hang hammocks and lay out the beanbags. There are 2 large deck lockers for fenders and other miscallaneous equipment. Easy access to the deep anchor locker which holds the 120m of GR 43 OMC chain which is operated from the helm or directly from the anchor winch.
Your watersports are all taken care of with 2 SUPs, 2 person kayak, 4 dive tanks along with like-new dive compressor (24 hrs) that runs happily off the inverter plus there is enough additional storage to bring all your water toys.
Ausbos is one of a kind in every way and she will take you wherever you want to go safely, quickly, and with plenty of comfort. We really were fortunate to find her when we did and it will be very hard to let her go.
NOTE: We are hauling out for maintenance in late October in Krabi for anyone that wants to come and have a look at Ausbos in all her glory.

Remarks
In 2021 the hull was sand-blasted back to fairing compound and 3 coats of high build expoxy paint and 5 coats of Coppercoat were professionally applied. This has given us year after year underwater growth protection in some of the dirtest waters in South East Asia. Haul outs are now done by necessity, not just a yearly job to paint the bottom at a cost of $2000. It was one of the best decisions we ever made with Ausbos.
Spares: Autopilot pump, full spare Openplotter mfd, spare watermaker parts, induction stove, epoxy, glass, carbon fibre, enough spare plumbing to replace everything, water pumps, lubricants, electrical parts, tri colour mast light, paint, deck hardware, plenty of filament for the 3d printer
