Two Step was designed by the legendary designer Joe Adams. She is a versatile, stable and very manageable trailable yacht. Built in the late 1980s, Two Step had a successful racing record in earlier years in both light and strong conditions. The custom built single axle trailer, which is light but strong, makes for easy launching and retrieval. Cross winds and cross currents are no problem. The package tows well.
Owned by the builder since new, Two Step, No 38, was one of the last production boats, and probably the best. Being hand laminated in the Jarkan factory at Nowra in 1985 with the later internal furniture and balsa cored deck, she is stiffer, stronger, more spacious and no heavier than the earlier gun-laid boats produced under the Seahorse 6 label. Two Step is the lightest of the later production boats. The rig is also the last built with a highly regarded Peelgrane mast.
The sails are old in years but less so in use as Two Step has been laid up for most of the past 20 years. The sail inventory, mainly by North Sails, comprises a dacron main, kevlar #1 genoa, mylar dacron #1 genoa, mylar dacron #2 blade jib, dacron #3 jib and unused storm jib. There are two spinnakers, one to the old IOR measurement rule. The smaller of the two (a 90% sail) is in new condition and proved to be very manageable and fast in stronger conditions.
Deck gear is sound with all halliards and control lines leading back to the cockpit - a very manageable layout for short handed racing and cruising.
The interior provides for 4 berths, a galley, ice chest, a portable toilet and storage under the bunks and on side shelves. Cruising gear includes a folding table, comprehensive ground tackle and an 80 watt solar panel.
The auxiliary is a 6HP Evirude.
From Canberra she cruised and raced widely from the Whitsundays to Goolwa in SA. In her heyday she was the winner of three Canberra Cruising Yacht Regattas, Marlay Point overnight race and the Queensland Wintersun Race as well as club races. Although not sailed for some years now, basic condition is excellent and, with a tidy up, she would be ready in a short time to again race or cruise.
At the asking price, $10,000, Two Step is a bargain.
