Randell 34 (A BOAT WITH AN AMAZING HISTORY)

A BOAT WITH AN AMAZING HISTORY

RANDELL 34' HARDTOP COUPE.
"WILD OATS 2" Reg. XG802V

Originally purchased new by Bob Oatley (Chairman, Rosemount Estate Wines) in Jan 1986.
Original "Telex" of 29/1/86, confirming purchase (no email back then) is part of the ship's log.
Also, the letter (11/12/85) by Bob Oatley pre-booking his Marina pen at D'Albora Marina for "Wild Oats 2".

This is a very rare boat in that it is the only known hardtop coupe, with an enclosed cabin hardtop and also a huge cockpit for entertaining and fishing.
The well fitted out cabin is suitable for many days cruising with full bathroom facilities, (shower, toilet, handbasin and HWS).
The galley is well equipped with microwave, frig, sink and plentiful storage and bench space.
Also a 100 litre ice-box under the Port-side cockpit seat.

Bob Oatley sold the boat in July 2000 after using it for private pleasure and a "chase-boat" for his early "Wild Oats" yachts.
In 1993 a "Wild Oats" (a Farr 43) was 6th outright in the Sydney-Hobart, and won the IOR Division.
The maxi-yacht "Wild Oats XI" was launched Dec. 2005 and went on to win the Sydney-Hobart a couple of weeks later in record time.

"Wild Oats 2" went through a succession of owners until March 2018, when the boat underwent a major restructuring at Marineworks, Scarborough.
Removal of the original 2 X 165hp Volvo Penta diesel stern-drives, and the installation of a single reconditioned 2006 Volvo 350hp duo-prop Diesel Stern-drive. Model D6-350. This owner made several improvements and enjoyed the boat for the next 3 years until selling it in July 2021.

The next owner was Lieutenant Colonel Harry Smith, a Vietnam War hero, famous for commanding the Australian troops during the Battle of Long Tan. (18/8/66). This was the largest battle involving Australian troops in the Vietnam war. A movie of this epic event was made in 2019, much of it filmed in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. "Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan".
At the age of 90, Harry put "Wild Oats 2" up for sale in July 2023, but sadly passed away 20th August.

The current owner purchased the boat in August 2023. It had been unused for a long period and required substantial work to bring it back up to its former glory. See enclosed Survey of July '23.

NOTES:
Original Volvo engines and stern-drives were removed in March 2019 by Marine Works, Scarborough, and the current engine 2006 Volvo D6 350 installed.
This engine, whilst not needing reconditioning, had a major service and any components requiring replacement were done.
The stern-drive leg was apparently a reconditioned unit. When the current owner bought the boat, the leg required attention, so he replaced it with an "as-new" unit in August 2023,.
The current owner has had the engine serviced by the Volvo agent (Aug. '23) whereby the seawater pump was replaced as were several other items over and above the normal Major service requirements.
The current owner has receipts for the original motor installation and it is understood that the electronics were installed at that time.
There are receipts for over $40k spent on mechanical and electrical upgrades in 2023.
The boat has had a hull clean recently and all anodes were checked as OK.
All new items have been duly noted in the foregoing notes. Insurance: Comprehensive insurance with Nautilus Insurance.
Marina berth: Purchaser may lease the berth at Marina market rates or negotiate a purchase of the berth if required.
