OCEANUS JOE is the sought-after Owner's version of the Leopard 43 Power Catamaran.
Penned by Netherlands' Simonis Voogd Design, the Leopard 43 Powercat is the synthesis of various features - among them the sleek hulls with knife-like bows, a long waterline length, minimal drag, plenty of buoyancy fore and aft, and engines positioned relatively far forward. With a shallow draft and modest wetted area the hulls reward owners with slippery fuel-efficiency - the fine bows slide through the water with an easy motion. The easy motion is aided by a long waterline. Designed with plumb bows and long boarding platforms aft, the LWL is just shy of the 13m LOA. Each hull carries hard chines just above the waterline. This extra width creates more volume for accommodation inside, and also improves buoyancy in less than ideal sea conditions. Where many cats have their engines located in the stern, the 43's are mounted further forward - a happier weight distribution to minimise porpoising or 'hobby-horsing'.
The "game changer" in the Leopard 43 design is the full height opening forward saloon door.
At anchor or underway, the forward saloon door offers ventilation and access to the foredeck not possible in most cat designs. Leopard has carefully thought out how to best to use all the space forward. There is safe access to the internal anchor system, which means no anchor rode or chain over the foredeck, a sun lounging area, huge foredeck and access to the port and starboard deck storage lockers.
An open tread staircase connects the flybridge to the cockpit where again the focus is on having a great time with friends and family and relaxing in an elegant and open outdoor environment. Plenty of seating for everyone forms the basis of the layout. In the cockpit here's a massive U shape port side settee with fixed dining table, plus a sun lounger to starboard aft of the flybridge staircase.
From the cockpit to the forward screen and through onto the foredeck, the saloon has an incredible feeling of light, space and ventilation. High profile windows all round, soft tone fabrics and light coloured Alabaster Oak laminated timber panelling accentuate the openness and create a contemporary and luxurious setting.
The main deck saloon/galley area - like all areas in the boat, is roomy, functional and extremely well designed, making maximum use of every available space. The galley is forward facing with a gas oven and hob, with maximum provisions for storage and extended stays. Corian surfaces, plus fridge/freezer combo drawers aft. Opposite is an L shaped settee with drop down table that converts to become another double berth.
The port hull includes two double cabins w/ hanging lockers, additional storage and excellent natural light and ventilation separated by a shared head compartment midships.
The entire starboard hull is devoted to an Owner's Suite featuring a large double berth aft, spacious head compartment forward w/electric toilet, sink, vanity and shower). The forward end of the shower compartment conceals a washer-dryer unit. The mid-cabin office area has been professionally upgraded with new cabinetry and joinery (matching the colour and material of the original finish) - adding a new set of shelves with sliding door, two higher open shelves and 2 large cupboards with vanity. It's ultrastylish and comfortable! This private and luxurious cabin is equipped with a pocket sliding door to give total privacy to the space.
