Description: Holmes 51 Motor Cruiser SUPERBLY BUILT HISTORICAL MOTOR CRUISER!
With its incredible history, superb build quality, and luxurious interior, the HMAS Koorine is a vessel that turns heads where ever she pulls into port! Designed and built by in 1936 by the renowned WL Holmes & Co in Sydney of 1 3/4" Carvel NZ Kauri Pine, this classic Motor Cruiser has certainly stood the test of time. Originally commissioned for Sir Clifton Love (Uncle Toby's Oats founder) no expense was spared in its construction. In 1942 Koorine was recruited to serve in World War Two, and was transformed with fore and aft mounted machine guns, plus 10 depth chargers! Initially serving in the Australia fleet, HMAS Koorine then worked as a merchant vessel for the US Army's Small Ships "Rag Tag" Fleet made up of soldiers that were too young, too old, or medically unfit to join the Australian Navy. Here the vessel exceled and was used to run supplies to Papua New Guinea and return the wounded to Australia. After her time in service, Koorine underwent an extensive refit in the 1970s in Williamstown (VIC), to return her to her original purpose as a luxury cruising vessel. This included lengthening the hull by two feet, raising her deck, installing the twin Ford Bowman 120HP Diesel Engines, and the adding the functional and comfortable flybridge the vessel features today. The interior was also transformed from the bunks to carry to the wounded, to a superb master suite aft, generous saloon, and guest accommodation forward. Purchased by the current owners in 2021, the vessel has benefited from a significant recent refit to restore her to her former glory. Over $100,000.00 has been spent over the last 3 years including NEW STAINLESS STEEL DRIVE SHAFTS, NEW STERN TUBES, NEW BEARINGS, MAJOR SERVICING OF BOTH ENGINES WITH THE HEAT EXCHANGERS REPLACED, NEW BATTERIES, FULL INTERNAL REFIT WITH LUXURIOUS VELVET LININGS KEEPING WITH THE OLD WORLD CHARM, NEW STAINLESS STEEL FUEL TANK, EXTENSIVE WORK TO THE HULL, the list goes on. Following a successful 7 day cruise from Sydney to Southern Tasmania, this vessel is now ready for its next adventure. Ideal as a liveaboard, entertainer, family cruiser with long range cruising capability, its possibilities are endless. Rarely does a vessel of this historical significance, pedigree, and practicality come on the market, so this really is an opportunity not to miss!
Stepping inside, the stunning traditional aesthetics create a warm and welcoming ambience.
