Launched in 1939, this timeless classic is steeped in history and endless amounts of quality craftsmanship from another era. Fortunately, if you take the time to ask around, there are still craftsman around who revel in the opportunity to add their skills to such an important vessel. This was the case in 1995 when Hiawatha underwent a full refurbishment with many quality additions such as the very functional galley without taking anything away from her original grandeur. The appliances were replaced with quality Miele products and the substantial refrigeration was also upgraded to modern 12 volt and U-Tec systems. Whilst all historic light fittings have been retained, the wiring and 240 volt systems have all been replaced. Two new Cummins 120Hp diesels were also installed providing economical cruising at 9 knots and a maximum hull speed of 13 knots when required. No doubt that this was called for during the vessels war time service in WWII but when in recreational use today, is shame to rush the process. Simply being behind the helm of this stately cruiser is a joy not to be wasted by hurrying. Whilst gentle cruisers along smooth river systems are the ideal environment to enjoy the sheer magnificence of this vessel, it is also a very capable off-shore cruiser with all of the essentials for extended stays at your favourite island with three cabins offering accommodation for seven and an ONAN generator for all of life's modern luxuries. Truly an icon of Perth's waterways since new, Hiawatha is one of the most desirable vessels afloat today and presents beautifully. One very special vessel to have and the new owners will certainly have a sense of achievement on acquisition.
