This is a Liberty boat, built by Whaler in 1968 and used as standard equipment on Navy Destroyers, for ship to ship or ship to shore transport.
They are super strong fibreglass construction, designed to be lifted at both ends with a full complement of seamen onboard. This particular boat was on HMAS Perth and known as D38.
Following her naval career she was used in Kettering Marina before a 30 year stint as a water taxi on the Yarra River. Cabin clears were added during this time to improve airflow.
A recent tidy-up has included a new drive shaft in 2022 stainless, a new water-injected lip seal type shaft seal, a new Isoflex shaft coupling, a new tiller steering system and significant fibreglass works.
Powered with a shaft drive 4 cylinder Yanmar diesel, she is 8 metres in length, 2 metres width, and weighs approx 1.5 tonne.
Her quirky, double-ended design is very appealing and she turns heads wherever she goes. She would make a delightful and safe day/picnic boat, or a good little business opportunity.
Her commercial survey expired in November 2022 but could be re-activated. She was licensed to carry 12 passengers and only required Coxswain qualifications.
