Description: Classic Montague Timber Whaler, new Nanni diesel
"Valkyrie" is a virtual sister ship to the "James Caird", the Whaler used by Sir Ernest Shackleton on his remarkable voyage between Elephant Island and South Georgia in the Antarctic in 1915. The only difference is this boat is 4 feet longer. "Valkyrie" was launched by the Royal Navy in 1962. Planking is double Huon pine with 2 layers of fibreglass overlaid in 2021. Extensive refit has also been undertaken, with rosegum bunks, beech flooring, and a brand new 21 hp Nanni diesel installed. (Cruising speed 7knots. ).
The owner is 80, and due to advancing age has reluctantly decided to sell. The boat comes with an excellent steel trailer, which would require some modification for road use. A good Oregon mast is also available.
