Description: Classic Carvel Fishing Boat built in `1950
"Mayflower" - Sail / Diesel power - 8.5m - ~1950 - Langley - (Boom, Mast, Spars & Sails are included but were not fitted in recent work).
It was purchased in July 2017 as a gaff-rig (sail type boat) however rebuilt as similar to the original fishing boat - refer to white boat image, and after purchases of $33,500 and 525+ hours of (not costed) labour was re-launched on 17 November 2017.
The rebuild was after stripping all superstructure and then the deck and all deck beams. Then, after attending to minor hull repairs, rebuilding everything above with new deck beams, deck, and everything above. The deck was finished with "Dynel" which is a thick coat of epoxy resin over fabric/gauze. An image showing the deck shows a blotchy appearance and that is because the primer between the paving paint topcoat did not properly adhere to the epoxy base. The spars masts and sails were not refitted at that time because of their height and the reduction of access.
Timbers used were dry jarrah and red meranti timber, imported marine plywood and fixings were with epoxy resin and stainless steel bolts and screws
Stainless steel fittings, new toilet, new safety gear, a 12" Raymarine Model "C" plotter, hydraulic steering, and security system as the vessel has own modem and cameras - sending images and alerts, solar panels, EPIRB, Life Jackets, toolbox and some tools.
Power is by a "Watermotor Sea-Panther" diesel motor that was marinized in London that was reinstalled after a rebuild. The motor was not in the boat at the time of purchase as we understood it had not been re-installed since being rebuilt
The Canopy covers some glass windows and the front hopper window and totally encloses the cockpit. It has 5 panels that may be unzipped and rolled up or they may be removed.
The seating is by 2 X upholstered bench seats that have reversable backs along a full length table.
The boat is structurally very sound although some work is always required.
Mayflower would be ideal for a practical person who likes working with wood and generally pottering around and doing the necessary odd jobs.
