A rare opportunity to own one of the most stunning sports-cruisers in the country !
'Platypus' has been turning heads on Sydney Harbour with her 'Rooster Tail' attracting attention since she was imported from her original flag point of St Tropez by her first owner.
Powered by twin D12 Volvo (700hp) Turbo Diesel engines, Platypus has a top speed of 40 knots and a comfortable cruise of 30 knots with her Arneson surface drives delivering ultimate speed and efficiency by reducing underwater drag by up to 50%. Adding to the boat's performance is the vessel's unique hull constructed of Pre-Pregnated Kevlar, providing a light but durable hull, weighing in at only 19 Tonnes and therefore very light on fuel consumption.
'Platypus' has 3 spacious cabins + separate crew accommodation with wet head, 2 bathrooms and a large well-appointed galley. She has teak laid decks and oversize sun pads both on the bow and aft. This Baia 54 is a unique vessel that needs to be inspected to be fully appreciated. She is highly optioned and really stands out from the crowd. Think Italian quality fittings and finishings, and you get the idea.
With only 1500 hours on her engines and a meticulous, fully documented service history over 15 years, Platypus is turn key with nothing to spend, if you can find a 55ft sports cruiser as good as this, for the same price, you should buy it.
The Baia Aqva 54 is one of only 3 private imports of the Baia brand in the country.
The Arneson drive system is often misunderstood and underrated. They are very low on maintenance, requiring only a 'boot check' on every annual service. No more legs, shaft drives or IPS failures; the Arneson's are 'direct coupled' to the Volvo's and were to be the proxy for modern day high performance boats in the Pershing and Mangusta yachts, as well as most border patrol boats.
Able to be 'trimmed up' above the lowest point of the hull, shallow water boating is no issue.
Make no mistake, Platypus is a "looker", with a massive bow entertaining area and sunbed, electric retractable sunroof, an almost 5M beam, all the latest electronics including Fusion Sound, Starlink Internet, Garmin Dual Screens, LED strip lighting and Inverter circuits with Smart TV's. Brand new AGM batteries (Oct 2024) with 800W Inverter means days on anchor without needing to run the Onan Generator.
The interior design, characterized by typical Italian clean lines, large oval stainless windows, cherry wood cabinetry, nappa leather couches and attention to detail, exudes sophistication and elegance.
The forward master V Berth has an oversized ensuite, ample under bed storage space and hanging space. The aft port side accommodation has twin single beds and shares the day head as an ensuite with separate access. The aft starboard L-shape twin single accommodation completes the 6 person, 3 bedroom configuration.
The captain, of course, has his / her own quarters with access behind the pilot's helm, with a separate wet head.
The vessel boasts a very large fixed swim platform with room for a tender or Jetski to be launched by a cleverly concealed and re-engineered passerelle that doubles as a Davit.
Platypus comes with a current OOW Survey and references are available by Newport Marine Services.
Platypus has also just had her annual (July 2024) with Engines, Genset and 3 zone Aircon service completed. The filters on the Besenzoni water maker have also been replaced (50L per hour added to her already large 700L fresh water tanks)

The current (2nd owner) is committed to a larger vessel, which makes Platypus ready for a hot summer with a new owner and nothing to spend.
